MS PE & HEALTH

Welcome to our Middle School Physical Education & Health Education Blog. Our intention is to use the Blog to post video or images of the activities our students will be engaged in during their PE lessons – after all, in such a performance based discipline, images can convey so much more than words. Please select your son our daughter's PE teacher's page for updates and to see what activities they have been doing in class.

It is our pleasure to work as partners with you in encouraging daily physical activity, skill development and healthy behaviors in each of our students throughout their Middle School years.

The Middle School PE TEAM.

Below are some useful to know general guidelines that relate to PE & Health class in the Middle School

Assessment
Please check Power-School every couple of weeks to look for updates on performance assessments and to stay on top of any late or missing work. In any instance where a student receives an assessed level of proficiency < Meeting Expectation for performance, the teacher will provide a feedback comment regarding the knowledge and skill to be worked on and will also provide specific methods and strategies for improvement. This feedback will be written as a ‘comment’ in the assignment on Power-School.

Exemplars
Students are informed on what they are to be assessed on well in advance. All PE & Health rubrics are available for viewing on the ‘MyDragonnet’ server at the commencement of each unit of study. These documents can be accessed through your child’s account. We encourage you to take the time to go look through a couple of the exemplar videos so that you can get a better appreciation of some of what is being learned and what is being assessed in PE.

Re-do Opportunities
Any students who are assessed as ‘Approaching Expectation’ or below for an activity are welcome to complete a ‘Re-do’ opportunity. This is with the expectation that the student does the following:
  1. Reflect on feedback
  2. Examine the rubric/exemplar video & criteria for the assessment
  3. Arrange a mutually agreeable ‘Re-do’ session  with their PE teacher
  4. Practice so they will improve their performance / proficiency
  5. Arrive prepared and on time for the re-do.
Please note:
a. All ‘Re-do’s’ for Health class assessments must be completed within two weeks of grades being published on PowerSchool.

b.  All ‘Re-do’s’ for PE class assessments must be arranged within two weeks of grades being published on PowerSchool and completed prior to two weeks before the end of the semester at the latest.
c.   All assessment criteria is on the PE & Health pages of MDN.

d. Due to time constraints no re-do opportunities are available within the last 2 weeks of a semester.

Work Habits Assessment in PE & Health Classes
We follow the MS wide Work Habit Rubric guidelines, however, we have provided detailed specific criteria for how we assess Work Habits in our subject area. A copy of the PE & Health Class Work Habit Rubric is available for viewing on the ‘MyDragonnet’ server and can be accessed through your child’s account (PE & Health, under 'General Information').
